Maybe you've had some experience with the Fiberskyn II. Not an ideal head if you are playing any type of rock!!That's not true. I use to use them in college on my jazz ensemble kit.

They are Fiberskyn and they stretch really easy. Fiberskyn Emperors were available for awhile, but with the Fiberskyn Powerstrokes out, they may have been discontinued.Ĭaution: While I agree they sound great, they do wear out twice as fast as a normal head. The Fiberskyn Ambassador falls between a regular Ambassador and regular Emperor. A Fiberskyn Diplomat is thicker than a regular Diplomat, but not as thick as a regular Ambassador. Though heavier than a traditional Weatherking of a given weight.the difference is not quit as much as some may suggest. Plenty of attack.but it's pleasant, not 'plastic' sounding, and well balanced with sustain. Good for brushes.though not quite as good as a regular coating. They're not exactly 'controlled', but they keep their asses in line until it's time to do some whoopin'. Warm, sensitive, powerful, disciplined.yes disciplined. I'm not talking about the dealer or distributor the manufacturer, as of 2 months ago, had none in stock.Īnyway.awesome heads. Though listed on their site, Remo does not stock the Diplomats or Powerstrokes.

I've ordered two full sets 8-10-12-14-16-22, in a combination of Diplomat, Ambassador, and Powerstroke. Right now.getting anything other than the Ambassador weight is a problem. If I played nothing but jazz I'd be all over these. Jeff Hamilton (mostly) plays the Diplomat fiberskyns over clear ambassadors. I don't think the "Emperor" fiberskyn is 2-ply but I could well be wrong. Therefore the "Diplomat" fiberskyn is actually more like a regular Ambassador in weight, an "Ambassador" fiberskyn is more like an Emperor, and so on. The heads are made by adding the fiber coating to the regular weight plastic layer. (See Jeff Hamilton's kit.) Orchestral players will use them on those huge bass drums, too, because it's the closest thing to calf.īe advised that Remo calls them by the same weights-Diplomat, Ambassador, & Emperor-as their other heads, but this is misleading. Some of the old school jazzers use them all the time. The texture also makes them terrific for brush work, especially on the toms. A more complex and warmer tone than a clear, even more than a coated ambassador type head. They sound quite a bit like the old calfskin heads: somewhat dry, not a lot of ring, plenty of attack.
